Artificial Intelligence (AI)
and Machine Learning (ML)

ESI offers AI solutions to make scientific discoveries faster, easier, and more efficient.

ESI Services

Today, AI and machine learning are helping scientists address a range of everyday tasks, such as cleaning, standardizing, and integrating complex data types—from genomic and proteomic, to clinical and even medical imaging data. Most importantly, AI/ML offers a better, faster approach to translating biomedical findings into clinical practice, enabling clinicians to tailor treatment and care for their individual patients.

Maybe you’ve wanted to use AI/ML, but you’ve been reluctant to tackle challenges such as data bias, security, infrastructure, and interpretability.

ESI has highly skilled staff and the necessary know-how to help. We have a proven track record of delivering AI/ML solutions that are reliable, responsible, secure, and ready to work for you!

  • Generative AI: Developing, training, testing, and implementing large language models for research or business needs.
  • Conversational AI: Conceptualizing, building, training, and implementing chatbots to enhance workflows and web experiences.
  • Natural Language Processing and Semantic Analysis: Developing AI/ML-based approaches to discover, interpret, and summarize highly complex technical content or unstructured data.
  • Single/Multi-Modal Data Analysis: Designing, training, and implementing computational models to help analyze or integrate different types of scientific (omics) data.
  • Infrastructure and Training: Creating infrastructure to accommodate your AI/ML needs so you can easily run programs without the need for specialized knowledge or training.

ESI Solutions In Action

ESI is applying AI to help the National Cancer Institute (NCI) achieve their goal of making data from cancer research easier to find, share, integrate, and analyze. We have developed several large-language model chat bots to assist in extracting research data, giving researchers ready access to information in platforms like NCI’s caNanoLab.

Staying on Top of Today’s Research

Imagine if you could summarize mountains of complex technical content with a few clicks of your mouse, allowing you to get to the “bottom line” without having to wade through a lot of extraneous details, and without spending an inordinate amount of time online.

With the help of AI/ML and intelligent document processing (IDP) you don’t have to imagine any longer. You can click a mouse, set the tool in motion, and come back to an organized report summarizing only the information you need.

NCI needed a way to synthesize and summarize information from a broad range of documents, including published articles, electronic health records, and clinical trial reports.

To address this need, ESI uses a multi-step approach that leverages both IDP and AI (see figure). Our first step uses IDP technology to sift through massive amounts of content to find keywords and phrases. After filtering for relevant terms/concepts, we apply an AI-driven approach to further refine this content, including removing sensitive information such as personal identifying information or personal health data.

If you’re looking for a new, smart way to find information—from an existing database, documents, websites, or the entire Internet—we can help.
